The story & the vision

Broken, divided, in pieces — and made whole in Christ.

Why we’re planting a church in Fuquay-Varina, what we believe it should be, and the heart behind it — in Matt’s own words.

Meet Matt

I’d rather be honest than impressive.

I’ve spent the last several years serving the Fuquay-Varina community — walking with people, teaching the Word, and learning what it really means to pastor rather than perform. That time convinced me of something simple: this town is ready for a church that keeps it real.

Right now I’m in a one-year residency, preparing to plant that church in 2027. No fog machines, no hype, no polished stage act. Just Scripture, honest relationships, and a community trying to make following Jesus a little more livable.

This site is where I’ll share what I’m learning along the way — and where you can decide if you want to walk it with us.

The mission

Church isn’t a building. It’s God’s people — broken, divided, and in pieces — that come together to celebrate and be made whole in Christ Jesus.

Being a “disciple” doesn’t come from a stage, a class, or a title. It’s the uncomplicated process of being open to God’s call on your life and acting on it. And community is being united by the truth of the Word — then spreading that truth through our words and actions: worship, fellowship, servitude, and prayer.

What guides us

Four things we’re building on.

Discipleship through vertical truth

The Word and a focus on Christ are our guide. We’re growing active disciples who understand and apply Scripture in their everyday lives — as a way of life, not a Sunday habit.

Elder governed, congregation led

Elders keep leadership accountable through Scripture; leadership keeps members engaged in directional decisions. People have real ownership of their church, and know their voice is heard.

Life-giving soul care

Real connection, fellowship, and support, with programs that nurture spiritual maturity and grace. Relational before transactional — every system exists to put people first.

Keep it simple & authentic

When in doubt: what would Jesus do, and what does Scripture say? Follow that. Keep it real, remove barriers instead of building them, and make a Christian life easier to live — not harder.

The heart behind it

Make it easier to follow Jesus — not harder.

So much of church life gets weighed down by systems that put process before people. We want the opposite: relational before transactional, every structure existing to care for people rather than to manage them.

We want to remove barriers, not erect them. When in doubt — what would Jesus do? What does Scripture say? Follow that, and here’s how. Keep it simple, keep it tangible, keep it honest.

“Keep it real. It’s too exhausting to fake it or to hide — and secrecy only creates division and distrust.”

A quick word on the name.

“’Sup” is the name of this website, not the church. It carries over from the neighborhood newsletter — short for “What’s up, Fuquay?” The church we’re planting will get its own name closer to launch. This is simply the bridge between now and then.
